RideOnTrack Careers R&D Engineer – MCX Infrastructure & Deployment

R&D Engineer – MCX Infrastructure & Deployment

About RideOnTrack

RideOnTrack is a Belgian technology company building mission-critical communication systems for sectors where reliability and safety are essential — such as railways, public safety, and critical infrastructure. Founded in 2011 and based in Geel, Belgium, we combine deep telecom expertise with modern software engineering to deliver solutions like FRMCS and MCX dispatching, IoT-based condition monitoring, and radio network performance analytics.

We’re driven by three core values: Safety First, Customer Centricity, and Continuous Innovation. These values shape how we build, collaborate, and grow — whether that’s contributing to international standards like 3GPP, ETSI, and UNIFE, or developing new ways to make mission-critical communication simpler and more secure.

At RideOnTrack, we bring together a passionate, multidisciplinary team that thrives on turning complex challenges into elegant, future-proof solutions.

About the Position

We are seeking a skilled and motivated R&D Engineer – MCX Infrastructure & Deployment to join our team in Geel, Belgium. In this role, you will focus on developing, deploying, and maintaining scalable backend systems that power our MCX (Mission-Critical Communication) and FRMCS (Future Rail Mobile Communication) platforms. You will contribute to the evolution of distributed architectures, CI/CD automation, and containerised deployments that ensure reliability and performance in environments where communication cannot fail.

You will work closely with fellow R&D engineers, applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills to design and implement systems that meet the highest standards of availability and robustness.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the MCX team to develop and deploy backend and microservice-based software solutions for mission-critical communication environments.
  • Contribute to server-side and infrastructure components, including MCX, GSM-R/FRMCS interworking, and SIP Core solutions.
  • Participate in the architecture, implementation, testing, and deployment of distributed systems.
  • Design, develop, and refine CI/CD pipelines supporting both production and test environments.
  • Work in Unix-like environments using tools such as Git, CMake, and container orchestration technologies.
  • Apply modern software engineering practices to ensure scalability, resilience, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure seamless integration, deployment, and monitoring of our mission-critical applications.

Profile:

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Science with a background in Informatics, or related disciplines such as Physics or Mathematics (linked to informatics). Equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Proficient in Unix-like environments with hands-on experience using Git.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of understanding complex system architectures.
  • Experienced with at least one compiled language (e.g. C++, Rust) and one interpreted language (e.g. Python).
  • Experience with build systems such as CMake.
  • Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and related automation tools.
  • Knowledge of microservice architecture and distributed systems (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with monorepo management, automated testing, or telecommunication protocols (SIP, RTP, WebRTC) is an advantage.
  • Fluent in English; Dutch is an asset.
  • Comfortable working in a challenging, international, and collaborative environment.

Our offer:

  • Be part of a highly skilled R&D team developing the infrastructure behind mission-critical communication systems for railways and critical infrastructure operators.
  • Work with cutting-edge technologies in FRMCS, MCX, and cloud-native architectures.
  • A modern and inspiring workplace at the Cipal Innovation Centre in Geel.
  • Competitive salary and benefits above market standards.
  • Opportunities for career development and international collaboration.
  • A role where your work directly enhances the reliability, scalability, and resilience of systems vital to safety and operations.

If you are passionate about technology and problem-solving and want to grow with a leading company, we would love to hear from you! Please submit your resume and cover letter to join our dynamic team.
