RideOnTrack hosts FRMCS/MCX workshop with Funkwerk
This week, RideOnTrack had the pleasure of hosting a joint workshop with our partner Funkwerk Systems GmbH at our Technology Center in Geel, Belgium. Together with industry stakeholders from Infrabel, ProRail, and NMBS-SNCB, we explored the real-world implementation of next-generation railway communication: hashtagFRMCS.
This was not a theoretical roadmap presentation — we showcased a working prototype of our MCX/FRMCS Client SDK, including:
* Live, real-time hashtagFRMCS call demonstrations of RideOnTrack‘s dispatcher to Funkwerk Systems GmbH‘s onboard Cab radio systems
* Fully operational MCPTT and MCData services
* Use of our Web-based dispatcher client for maximum transparency on how the specifications have been implemented
🚀 Key Takeaways
1) The demo showed strong interoperability with Funkwerk’s vehicle systems and cab radios.
2) Our MCX Client SDK and Watchtower tools highlighted the benefits of open, scalable, and secure design for mission-critical environments.
3) The workshop included in-depth discussions on the technical evolution and deployment roadmaps for hashtagFRMCS across Belgium and the Netherlands — with valuable insights into spectrum usage, coexistence with hashtagGSM-R, dispatch system upgrades, and the impact of ETCS Level 2 on hashtagFRMCS.
🤝 A special thank you to Funkwerk Systems GmbH for their outstanding support, commitment, and provinding an in depth presentation of their innovative hashtagFRMCS solutions including:
* The Funkwerk Systems GmbH FRMCS Gateway
* hashtagFRMCS Radio modules and 5G antennas
* Their comprehensive approach to migration from hashtagGSM-R to hashtagFRMCS
We also extend our sincere thanks to the experts from Infrabel, ProRail, and NMBS-SNCB for their participation, constructive discussions, and transparency in sharing their strategies, implementation timelines, and challenges. Your input was crucial in making this a high-value workshop for everyone involved.
🔄 What’s Next?
We are committed to repeating these interactive workshops on a regular basis to better align with the needs and expectations of our customers, while also providing concrete insight into the practical integration of FRMCS specifications. These sessions help rail operators in preparation for upcoming technology changes and play a key role in accelerating hashtagFRMCS readiness across Europe.
Together, we’re not just talking about the future of railway communication — we’re building it.
